The 2nd World Parliamentary Forum on Sustainable Development (WPFSD) will mainly focus on renewable energy, said Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP). The international forum held in Bali on 12-13 September 2018 will be attended by parliamentary representatives from 45 countries. 

“Emerging countries, such as Indonesia, are struggling with fuel prices. Global economy also relays on the fuel price. We will be talking about sustainable energy,” Nurhayati said during the dinner reception on 11 September 2018. 

According to her, more parliaments in the world are now trying to urge the governments to make formulate  energy policies in such a way that people no longer depend on the fossil and coal fuels. There should be an innovation and a shift to sustainable energy. A stable economy would not depend on the fuel price.  

Parliaments’ concern over energy issues is basically to bolster support government’s programs. The Democrat Party politician said the government and parliament are supposed to work together to make develop a renewable-energy policy. 

The Indonesian House said the collaboration of the government and parliament to make implement a renewable energy policy is indispensable. Therefore, this forum also invites Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ignatius Ignasius Jonan, and Minister of National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Brodjonegoro. 

“Minister of ESDM Ignasius Jonan and Minister of Bappenas will also attend this forum. So, this is eventually practically a parliamentary diplomacy forum to support government’s foreign policies which are beneficial to the nation,” Nurhayati said. (eko/sf/mut)
