Vice Chairperson of the House Committee for Interparliamentary Cooperation, Mardani Ali Sera, said the committee sought inputs from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) regarding its plan to host international meetings amid the COVID-19 pandemic, underlining that Indonesia has considered some scenarios related to the COVID-19 handling and made strict health protocols mandatory.

“First, I want to thank BNPB for accepting our invitation to discuss preparations for the upcoming international meetings,” said Ali Sera during a meeting with the BNPB Head Ganip Warsito at the House complex in Jakarta, Tuesday (15/6/2021). “As we are all aware, the pandemic is not over yet. We need inputs from the BNPB to make sure that the international events will be successful.”

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician said that, from 2021 to 2022, the House will hold four international meetings: The 2nd Meeting of Indonesia Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP), the 5th Meeting of Speakers of Eurasian Countries Parliaments, the 144th IPU General Assembly Meeting, and the 7th G20 Parliamentary (P20) Speakers Summit.

“The House will host four international meetings from 2021 to 2022, one of which is the 144th IPU General Assembly Meeting, which has been our priority,” said Ali Sera, who is also a member of the House Commission II—overseeing home affairs. “Thorough preparation of the much awaited events is required as Indonesia is entrusted to become the host country.” (tn/sf)
